For over 30 years, Concilio volunteers have taken a “Christmas celebration” to men in four prisons in the Maritimes. It’s a fun event, with quizzes, songs, songs, and a closing reflection on the Christmas story. It’s a way to remind the prisoners that they are important and remembered. Two facilitators and up to 12 volunteers spend 4 full days in December with up to 10 different groups of prisoners. In total, between 160 – 200 prisoners participate.
Over the years, local churches have made an amazing contribution to these Advent events making donations of food and funds. The food is not the only cost of the program. Concilio spends $1500-$1800 toward these programs each year, and would be very thankful for any help to offset those costs.
Your contribution would help pay for: cookies/sweets ($150 per prison); travel, either by van ($400 rental + gas) or cars (gas $40/car); and program supplies like photocopies of quizzes ($60).
Please help us give a fun “Christmas Day” to the prisoners by making a tax deductible donation to the ministry.
